Road Signs is an ongoing body of fiber sculptures inspired by roadside advertising and the climate crisis. The sculptures subvert the idea of the attention economy wherein advertisers aim to grab the viewer’s attention and hold it hostage. Proposing an alternative, I intend for these works to exist in harmony with the landscape, allowing the viewer to take in the natural world around them and imagine a man-made environment built in companionship with the land. Made using natural dyes from homegrown indigo plants and rusted metal discarded along the train tracks by my studio, each piece is a monument to the materials used in making it.
